Shut the Gate..

>> Saturday, January 31, 2009

So today we went to a Portuguese restaurant in BPT, and it was really good!! While we were walking down the sidewalk to our car, I just had the urge to take a shot down the line of the fence. I really wish I had my DSLR camera because then the depth of field would have been A LOT better. I really like how the gate seems to just go on and on, and you can't really tell where it ends, and also how there is a door swung open a little while down the gate. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Can You See me Now?

>> Friday, January 30, 2009

So today I decided to take a picture of a pair of my mom's old reading glasses. I started a drawing today for my new drawing class in school, and my eyes started to strain from staring at the paper for so long, and that is where i got this idea from. I set up the book and glasses on a stool, and my tripod up about a foot away. I grabbed the light that i use ALL the time and I held it at an angle where I would get those circle shadows in front of the glasses. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

The Narrow Path of Clarity

>> Thursday, January 29, 2009

So today I decided to test out the reverse lens technique. I really love the narrow depth of field in this photo because there is almost nothing in focus, but there is something. I also think the bokeh really adds a nice touch. I sprayed my lens cap with water and I got in really close holding the lens backwards in front of my camera. I took three different shots at different distances away, and this one was the lucky winner. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

"Photography.."

>> Wednesday, January 28, 2009

So today was kinda boring.. school was closed, but at least it gave me a day to rest between midterms. I found another one of those great quotes about photography online today, and I decided to share it in a creative way. I wrote the quote down on a piece of paper with a silver marker, and placed another piece of paper over it. I ripped the paper out from the center just enough to show the quote. I placed the paper near a window to get the lighting and I didn't use a flash. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Cross My Heart

>> Tuesday, January 27, 2009

So today I began to try and recreate a picture that I saw from one of my flickr contacts, but I didn't have all of the materials to complete it. I used the materials that I did have to create my own simplified version. I really like the result because there is a lot of business in the upper right corner, but it doesn't really take away from the picture. I also love silhouettes and bokeh, and I especially love mixing the two. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I decided to take a picture of Tyler using the sun as my light source. I wanted to have Tyler pick his own poses for this shoot to see what I got. I got a couple different shots (mostly tired expressions like this LOL)! This picture barely needed any PP work at all! All I did was add a little more definition and contrast. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

A classic is a book that doesn't have to be written again

>> Sunday, January 25, 2009

So today I decided to try and attempt the whole make a heart from a ring thing, and it didn't really work out. I decided to just move the light wherever it looked good, and I still kind of got a heart. This is my mom's ring and I just thought that it picked up the light perfectly. I really like how only some of the book is lit and the other is in the shadows. Well I hope you all had a great weekend, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I decided to take a picture of my view whenever I am on the computer. I loved how the light was coming through the blinds and how there were the shadows and the reflections, and I just liked the entire composition of the picture. This was a little longer exposure because I didn't use a flash, but I did it without a tripod. It took about 20 shots, but I think I got it. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Madison!!
So today I decided to take a picture of these candles at Amy's house. They looked really nice on the mantle, and I thought that they would make a good picture too. I wanted to get them at an angle where only one of the candles would be in focus, but you could still tell that there were more in the background. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

"Its easy to be an angel when you are in heaven"

>> Thursday, January 22, 2009

So today I decided to take a picture of something that had to do with angels because I am reading this book about angels, ghosts, and spirits. It is a really good book called "Ghosts Among Us". Well, this is a picture of the bottom dangling crystal of a wind chime that we have in the kitchen. I wanted to wait until the sunset was perfectly aligned with the raffia that is tied around our curtains. I felt that if the raffia was awkwardly there, I should do something creative with it, so I made the sun shine right through it. I really like the lighting in this picture, especially where the light is shining through the crystal too. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Starry Night

>> Wednesday, January 21, 2009

So today I decided to try out a new technique with bokeh. I came across this article on the internet about creating your own bokeh. It was pretty simple.. all you have to is create a "hood" for your lens out of construction paper and cut a small shape from the front. It sounds pretty confusing, but it was easy. To take this shot I plugged in some christmas lights and hung them from the door knob. I really like how only some of the christmas lights were made into stars and some are only partial stars. Well I hope you all had a creative day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Change Can Happen

So today I decided to take a picture of todays newspaper, and I wanted to get it as perfect as possible. I wanted to get only some of the important words in focus, and I also wanted to get Obama's face included in the frame. I love the depth of field in the picture because if you look closely, you can see that Barack Obama's name is in focus and you can still read the big bold words. Well I hope you all had a great inauguration day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

"Never hesitate to accept an outstretched hand.."

>> Monday, January 19, 2009

So today we finally put by computer room together, and one of my favorite parts (other than the paint colors) was this sculpture that I got. Its a pair of two hands holding each other. I just love how the hands are all distressed and how it is cut off at the wrists. I took this without a flash which was kind of risky because the low lighting near the sculpture required a longer exposure which usually results in a blurry picture if the camera is not on a tripod. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today we were at my sister's house and we all really relaxed. Everyone was pretty tired, and we just needed to sit and do nothing. I took this picture while Maddie was having a little "nyack" as she would call it, and I just loved her smile. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Lime Chocolate

So today we finally painted my computer room. I have been wanting to paint this room for a while, and since we have been painting different rooms in our house for the past couple of weekends, it was finally my turn. For the colors I chose a muted lime green and a chocolate. It was really difficult picking the colors, but with a little help I finally picked the final colors. I know the colors are pretty bold, but the room came out awesome! I thought that I would take a picture of the two paint colors together because that it pretty much all I did today. LOL Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I had to make the final decision for the paint colors in my computer room. I ended up choosing a muted lime green and chocolate brown. We are painting tomorrow, and I hope the colors look good on the walls. You can never really tell what the colors are going to look like from this small little square on the paint chip. I knew that my dad had one of those paint chip fan books and I really wanted to take a picture of all of the color chips in it. It took a while, but once I got the right angle I just had to get the right camera settings and I got the shot. I also played a little with the saturation and contrast on the computer too. Well I hope you all have a great weekend, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today we went shopping at Lowes and I just knew I had to take a picture once I saw the rows, and rows of shopping carts. I had to stop my parents to let me take a picture. They are pretty used to having me stop them to take some pictures because they know that I just can't go on until I take the shot. Its pretty much like having photography OCD. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I had to go to a funeral for my uncle. I decided to take a picture that was related to what I was doing today. I decided to take my cross that I wear everyday and place it on my desk to get a nice contrast. I wanted to get it lined up perfectly so that there would be that spotlight of sunlight in the foreground of the picture. I really wanted to get a great DOF so that the less important part of the necklace was all blurry, and I think I got it! Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So I always walk by this flower that we have upstairs in a vase, and I always want to take a picture of it. Although the flower is fake, I think the colors in it are really cool. I just took the shot, by bringing it down to the family room and laying it down on the carpet. I really wanted to get the whole flower into the shot, so I lined it up perfectly so you could see the end of the stem. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Take a Look at the Sunset

>> Monday, January 12, 2009

So today while Tyler and Madison were watching a movie, I decided to take a picture. I always liked how the kids looked when they are sitting on the ottoman at the right time because the sun is always shining right through the door, and it lights up their face perfectly. Every time I try to take this picture, by the time I get the camera, the sun already moved. I was so excited when I got this shot perfect. I really like how it came out and how it gives his face a warm glow. Well I hope you all had a great Monday, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today was another family party! Big surprise! It seems that we have family parties almost every weekend, and they are all the same. We get there, give the present, gossip for a couple hours and leave. Its just a never ending cycle. Well this picture was obviously taken when the birthday girl, my cousin, was blowing out her candles. I really like how half the candles are already blown out, and how it gives it that cool effect. Well I hope you all had a great weekend, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

"One drop of water helps to swell the ocean"

>> Saturday, January 10, 2009

So it was about nine o'clock at night and I remembered that I hadn't taken a picture of the day yet, so I went upstairs to see what I could find. I went into the bathroom and found this candle holder and a water dropper. I brought them into the kitchen and set up a shot. I got the idea when I saw the candle holder a bunch of bubbles on it. I have taken photos like this before but with a different composition, and I think I like this one better. I can never get the drops super clear, but I think that this one isn't that bad. Well I hope you all have a great rest of the weekend, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I went to see 'the Unborn' at the movies and YES it was scary! I only recommend seeing it if you really like scary movies!! I decided to take a picture that reminded me of the movie. I took the picture my setting up my tripod and sitting on my sofa doing this weird pose. Most of the picture came through in the post processing. I made everything other than me all black, I lowered the saturation to give it an eery effect, and I photoshopped a new eye on top of mine. Well I hope you all stay safe, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I decided to go past my usual spots to take pictures and I went all the way to the edge of out property to take a shot just before the sun had completely set. I wanted to get a lot of branches going every which way in the photo, and I think accomplished that. I also love how the trees are all black with pops of color from the sun in the far background. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today we had an ice storm down here in CT, and that means no school!! I always get so excited when I read that one simple word.. "Closed". For such a little word it means so much. It especially means a couple extra hours of sleep. Well, against my mother's wishes I went outside to take pictures, and I can confidently say that I heard at least four or five big branches fall. The power had already gone out twice before I went out and my mom was afraid that I would somehow get hurt outside. Well I hope you all stayed safe today, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Dripping for Some Bokeh

>> Tuesday, January 6, 2009

So today everyone around here is waiting for some snow, so I decided to take a picture that had to do with weather. To take this shot I set up my tripod in the front of a window. On the outside of the window, I sprayed water all over it with a spray bottle. I had to work quickly to get the drips in motion. I really like how you can still see our Christmas lights outside because today was the last day we had them up! =[ Well I hope you all had a nice snowy night, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Bring it Back to the Oldies

So today I decided to take a picture of the thing that I am always staring at while I am on my computer. This "camera" is actually a piggy bank, but I think that it looks pretty real, especially in the picture. I am always looking at this camera because it is right next to my computer on my desk. I loved it the first second that I saw it at the store and I just knew that I had to bring it home. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I had my first photo shoot with an actual client! I was SO nervous, but I am pretty happy with the results. This is one of the pictures that I took that day, and I just had to make it black and white. I felt that it looked so much cuter that way. I also softened the photo in photoshop just to give it that nice extra effect. Well I hope you all had a happy day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today was a mall day, and me and the family all ended up our shopping trip at Target. Just before we walked into the store, I noticed the giant sign and how it was reflecting onto the REALLY shiny floor. I thought that it looked amazing, and I especially liked how you could see the shape of the tiles in the reflection. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself

>> Friday, January 2, 2009

Let me start out saying that there is NOTHING wrong with me! I can just imagine people emailing me asking if I'm ok, and if I need someone to talk to because of this picture. I just took this picture to represent a mood. I got hooked watching two movies about teenagers who felt uncomfortable with themselves and with their weight. I wanted to express the loneliness that they felt in a creative way. I decided to turn off all of the lights downstairs except for the laundry room light and I set up my tripod and my camera on a timer. I sat at the end of the hallway and did a couple of poses, and I thought that this one was the most intense and best represented the mood that I was going for. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Happy New Years!
So today I decided to take a picture today during another party. I wanted to take a picture to show 'tiredness'. I thought that it was a good idea because it showed the emotion that many of us were feeling these past couple days. I really like how the tones turned out in this picture too. Well I hope you all get some rest, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.
