Getting Ready for the New Year

>> Wednesday, December 31, 2008

Happy New Years Eve!
So today was a very busy day. We had a New Years Eve party and I had to help my mom get all the food and stuff ready. When I had a break, I decided to get my stuff and set up a shot. I took a glass and filled it with green tea to look like champagne (I should have added seltzer water for some bubbles) and I placed it on my tripod so it didn't move. I made sure that it was lined up so that there was some bokeh in the back from the Christmas tree. Well I hope you all had a great holiday, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

It Was Just an Egg-Cident

>> Tuesday, December 30, 2008

So I know that this is kind of a random photo, but we had eggs for dinner and that was kind of random too. My mom also thought that it was kind of weird when I asked her not to throw away the egg shells when she finished cooking. When I found two shells that I though looked good together, I washed them out so they didn't have any left over egg in them, and I took the shot. It was a simple setup with a blanket and a single light. Well I hope you all had an egg-cellent day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Sparkle Magic

So today I decided to take another picture of bokeh. I have been seeing a lot of it going around on the internet, and I love how it looks. This is a picture of one of our holiday decorations. I don't know exactly what you call them, but it has those strings, like fishing line with the tiny lights on the end. I thought that the picture came out really cool with all of the different colors sparkling. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Seasonal Reflection

>> Sunday, December 28, 2008

So today I decided to take a picture of something that I see many photographers taking pictures of this time of the year.. Hershey Kisses! To take this picture I found a cookie pan that had a very reflective bottom and I took one of the lights that I use all of the time to take my pictures. I placed the light right next to the kisses so that it was very intense. It took forever to get this shot perfect! I had to make sure that I liked how the light was and that I liked the reflection on the pan. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Foggy Lights

>> Saturday, December 27, 2008

So today while we were pulling into the driveway, I noticed how cool the light from the inside looked, shining through the tree. I just had to walk into the front lawn with my tripod and take the shot. I really like that you can see the shadow from the tree and just the whole feel of the shot. Well I hope you all have a nice, foggy day and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I was at Amy's house watching the kids, and I brought my camera because I know that I always end up taking an interesting picture there. I knew that they had nice Starbucks cups in their cabinets so I decided to take one out and take a creative shot of it. I really like that the cup is lying on a wooden countertop, and that you can really see the grain. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Merry Christmas!
So today I thought that Madison was wearing one of the cutest outfits ever! She was wearing her rubber galoshes, and she looked adorable! This was a picture when we were in the kitchen and I just had to take a picture of her. I love how her face looks so innocent, especially with the softened effect on the picture. Well I hope you all had a great Christmas, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Merry Christmas Eve!
So Santa decided to stop by our party and drop off some holiday gifts. Tyler and Madison really liked Santa this year, and Tyler was so excited when he saw his present. We all had a great time and were so happy when we could go to sleep. Well I hope you all had a great Christmas Eve, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Trimmed Tree

>> Tuesday, December 23, 2008

So today I decided to take some more pictures of our Christmas tree. For this picture I had to set my tripod on the sofa to get the best angle possible. At first, I got the lamp in the shot by accident, but I really like the look that it gave it because it gave it more of a homey feeling. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Bright Shadows

So today while I was walking out to the bus, I noticed how pretty the tree's shadows looked on the snow. I knew that I had to go fast so I grabbed my phone, snapped the shot, and ran to the bus. I really like the slight contrast on the snow of all the shadows. I also like the blues that were created on the snow. Well I hope you all had a nice Monday, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Frosty Window

>> Sunday, December 21, 2008

So today I was at the farm again, and it was EXTREMELY cold outside! I had my dad stop at a couple of places along the side of the road to take pictures of random things for school. Of course, everywhere I decided to go had about a foot of snow so I had snow going all in my pants and shoes. Well for this picture, I sat on the ground in the house and looked through the window. I thought that the window looked really cool with the snow around the edge. I wanted to get some trees through the window, so the picture was less boring also. Well I hope you all stayed warm, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Snowy Trail

So today on our way to Porky's in Shelton, we had to go to my cousin's house and pick him up. When we were about to drive onto his street, I decided to stick my camera out the window and take a shot of the other street that we were passing. I always like the shots of roads that go and disappear at a point with the trees on either side. I think that it gives it a tunnel effect. Well I hope you all had a snowy day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Head Over Heels

>> Friday, December 19, 2008

So I was adding my photos to some photography competitions online and I saw one that was labeled "shoes", and it made me think that I had never taken pictures of shoes. So I decided to go upstairs and grab one of Amy's heels. I placed one of dad's lights a couple of feet behind the shoe and I laid on the ground to get the light behind the shoe and the awesome shadow. I loved how this picture had the highlights around the edge of the shoe and the rest was all black. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Ornamental Holiday

So I finally ended up decorating the Christmas tree today, and I really wanted to take a picture of an ornament. Our whole tree is covered in white lights, and gold colored ornaments, plus a few handmade ornaments mixed in. I love this picture the second that I took it. I thought that looked so cool, and I just knew that i was going to post it. Well I hope you all had a great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Up With the Holidays

>> Wednesday, December 17, 2008

So today my mom put up the Christmas decorations in our house, and they all looked awesome. I wanted to take a picture of them, so I turned off all of the lights except the Christmas lights, and I set my camera on a tripod and let it go for a long exposure. I really like the effect around each light, because it looks like they all have a glowing halo around them, which really adds a softness to the picture. Well I hope you all had a cheerful day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Quiet Slumber

So Tyler was really tired today and when I went into the family room to check on him, he had fallen asleep. I thought that it was really cute how he was resting his hand on his cheek, and I just had to take a picture of it. When I uploaded it, I added a sepia effect and softened the picture. I think that those effects worked really well together to give it a nice result. Well I hope all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

I Wish I Could Read!

>> Monday, December 15, 2008

So this afternoon, Maddie had decided to grab a Harry Potter book, sit in a chair, and pretend that she could read. She actually sat there for a decent five minutes just looking through the book (which is a long time for her!). I knew that I just had to get my camera and take a picture. I made the picture black and white because I thought that the colors were too distracting. All the colors were very bright, and it was hard to focus on one thing. Well I hope you all had a colorful day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today I needed to shoot another roll for photo and I decided to take a shot for the theme 'transition'. I wanted to take a picture of Rob and Tyler because it was like transitioning from child to parent. I had them stand still, but look like they were walking. Then, I lied on the grass so that the sun was behind them, and it made them silhouettes. I really like the contrast between Rob and Tyler, and the sky. Well I hope you all had a good day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Sunny Branches

So today was another day at Longview, and I decided to go out into the yard at sunset and take a picture through the trees. Instead of just taking a regular picture of the sun, I decided to step back and include the trees. I really liked how the edges of the branches are all lit up from the sun's rays. Well I hope you all had a sunny day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Night Light

So today while moving Amy and Rob into their house, I decided to grab my camera and take a picture of the moon. I always feel like I should take a picture of the moon when its full because it always looks so cool. For this picture I had to use a tripod and remote because it was a longer exposure than normal, and it would have come out blurry without them. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Focusing on the Season

>> Thursday, December 11, 2008

So today I finally put up my own christmas decorations in my room. I always put up some lights behind my curtains so they twinkle when I turn them on. I took this picture behind the curtains so that is why you can see the blinds behind the lights. I wanted to make sure that only some of the lights were in focus, and some of them were blurred. Well I hope you all are spreading some holiday cheer, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

A Touch of Bokeh

>> Wednesday, December 10, 2008

So today we finally set up some of the Christmas lights outside, but we did not get to finish because of the rain. Once I got electrocuted by an outlet outside, I knew that it was time for my to go inside. Me and my dad figured that we would be able to finished the lights within the next couple days. For this picture I had to take a tripod outside with my remote to get the picture to not be blurry. I had to do a longer exposure because it was really dark outside. I loved how the background has all of the circles of color from the lights a little farther back. The word 'Bokeh' means blur in Japanese, and is used to describe blurred backgrounds and circles of light such as in this picture. Well I hope you all are spreading some holiday spirit, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Light up the Luck

So today I thought about bamboo for some reason, and I knew that Amy had a bamboo plant in her room that was really growing pretty well. So I took the plant downstairs, taped up the white blanket to the wall, and brought in the light that I always use. I moved the light closer to the back of the plant so that it would be mostly backlit because I thought that it would give it a nice effect. Well I hope you all have a lucky day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Snowy Greens

So today I went outside to shoot another roll for photo, and I decided that I should take a shot of how the grass with all of the snow still on it. First I took the camera and brought it down low to the ground without looking through the viewfinder and I came out with something similar to this. I did this because I didn't want to have to bend down and get my pants all wet, but of course I got them wet because I just had to get the perfect shot. Well once again, I hope you all stay warm, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

So today was SUCH a cold day, and all of the trees at the farm were covered with snow. They all looked so pretty, and I knew that I just had to take a picture of them. So there are these bamboo sticks in my room that my mom hates. Every time she cleans my room she tries to throw them away, and every time she throws them away, I always have to take them back and hide them. I decided to take a picture of them, so I looked up some ideas of some pictures online and didn't really find much, so I just began trying different angles and I came up with this one. I really like the DOF because only some of the sticks are in focus. Hope everyone has a nice weekend, and I'll talk to you soon!

A Rose by Any Other Name

So today I decided that I really wanted to try something similar to what I did yesterday but with the black backdrop that I have. I was walking upstairs when I noticed a bouquet of roses that had begun dying. I thought that they would make an interesting picture so I went for it. If you click on the picture, it should bring you to the picture on my flickr photostream. There you can find a link to the setup picture for this shot. If you have a problem finding the link, just send me an email and I will send you the link. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Seriousness

So today I decided to try out a "real" photo shoot with the kids. I took a bed sheet and I hung it on the wall. Then I turned off all of the lights except for this handheld light that I found in the garage. I really wanted to experiment with different angles of lighting and I had a lot of fun. In this picture, I placed the light on the ground so that just the front of Tyler was lit up and the edges of his face were dark. I really have to post the rest of the pictures from the shoot somewhere so you guys can see them! Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Sunset Silhouette

>> Monday, December 1, 2008

So today while I was in the kitchen i looked out the window, and I saw the most beautiful sunset that I had seen in a long time. First, I took this shot just straight onto the sunset and it looked decent, but when I stepped back and took a picture of it through the tree, it just added a whole new dimension to the shot. I also really like how the sun is trying to peek its was through the trees on the bottom of the picture. Well I hope you all had a nice day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.
